TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has opined that rumoured Tottenham target James Ward-Prowse would fit seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s set-up at Manchester City.

Ward-Prowse has been a one-club man so far in his career, having come through the Saints academy and gone on to make more than 400 appearances for the first team so far.

However, the 28-year-old’s time at his boyhood club looks in danger of coming to an end soon, with Southampton currently sitting at the bottom of the table, six points from safety with five games left this season.

Football Insider reported last month that Tottenham are ‘likely’ to make Ward-Prowse a target when the transfer window opens this summer.

The report added that the North London club are ‘big admirers’ of the 28-year-old and have identified him as one of their main priorities.

It was subsequently reported by talkSPORT that the England international would be allowed to leave St Mary’s if the Saints fail to preserve their Premier League status.

The Daily Mail revealed just a couple of days ago that scouts from Tottenham were in attendance at St James’ Park on Sunday to watch Ward-Prowse in action.

The report added that both Tottenham and Newcastle are ‘waiting to see’ the fee that Southampton will ask for the midfielder if they go down.

Crook believes that the Saints star would be a hit at Manchester City, suggesting that he would benefit from having better players around him.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Someone suggested Man City to me for James Ward-Prowse.

“He would be the perfect Pep player, but I’m not sure if he’s quite that level.

“But it’d be really interesting to see how good he is with better players around him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ward-Prowse would be a relatively inexpensive option and perhaps a decent squad player but I do not see him improving our starting eleven considerably, outside the quality of his set pieces.

I would rather see Spurs go after Joao Palhinha or Ruben Neves this summer.
