Tottenham Hotspur officially announced this morning that they have signed 22-year-old Netherlands international and PSV winger Steven Bergwijn.

The club then posted a more in-depth article revealing details of the move, with one eye-catching line revealing that Bergwijn would wear the number 23 shirt.

This squad number was vacant for just 24 hours or so, as Christian Eriksen completed his move to Inter Milan earlier this week, leaving his beloved 23 behind.

That squad number has been the subject of chants from adoring Tottenham fans for the past half-decade, so Bergwijn certainly has some big boots to fill.

Spurs also revealed that the winger’s contract would run until 2025, yet another young player signing up for the long-term in this new Spurs rebuild.

Bergwijn also brings with him title-winning experience, as he claimed the Eredivisie crown in the Netherlands three times with PSV since coming through their youth ranks.

It remains to be seen whether Bergwijn will slot straight into the squad for the upcoming Man City game at the weekend.
