It has been one of the swiftest transfer sagas that I can remember. The signing of Steven Bergwijn from PSV is complete! But what will the Dutchman offer in a Lilywhite shirt? Well, one thing is certain, the Dutchman will offer youthful energy to this Tottenham team.

I thoroughly believe that the signing is a statement of intent from Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy. It is clear that they are both focussed on a project revolving around younger players.

When you think of the likes of: Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, and Japhet Tangana, they all have one thing in common. These are players all in their early twenties and, in all honesty, yet to hit their prime.

Steven Bergweijn also fits that mould, guaranteed to bring raw pace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, there seems to be much more to the winger’s game.

In the last few years, the Dutchman has recorded very respectable stats in the Eredivise. Contributing to 15 goals in 16 games so far this season (TransferMarkt). In addition to this, Bergwijn was involved in 28 goals last season as PSV finished second to Ajax (TransferMarkt).

It is a signing that will certainly ease the pressure off the likes of Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura in attack, who in reality have worked non-stop in recent weeks as a result of the injury to Harry Kane.

It comes as a huge surprise that no-one else came in for Bergwijn. The 22-year-old will now hope to take the Premier League by storm as he eyes a place in a bright Netherlands team for Euro 2020.

But, as Rafael van der Vaart said on Twitter, it is a signing that we will certainly be patient with (Twitter).

I have to say I am incredibly excited to see the Dutchman in a Tottenham shirt soon, and it seems that the majority of Tottenham fans on social media feel the same way.

Welcome, Stevie!
