Tottenham Hotspur made their third winter signing this week in the form of Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven.
This followed the 18-month loan acquisition of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica, as well as the permanent purchase of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis after a six-month loan.
Spurs paid a reported £27m to bring Bergwijn from the Eredivisie to the Premier League in the January transfer market, but the player himself was also left out of pocket.
The Mirror claim that Bergwijn gave up almost £6m in bonus payments to join Jose Mourinho and Spurs last month.
A bonus payment would have apparently been due to the Dutch winger if he had stayed at PSV until the summer, with the player being told he would have to forfeit it for a move.
The 22-year-old has been in fantastic form for the Dutch club over the past two seasons, catching Tottenham’s eye this year.
