Ange Postecoglou is seemingly on the verge of becoming the next Tottenham Hotspur manager, but Trevor Sinclair thinks this could actually be a ‘stepping stone’ to the Manchester City job.

Tottenham have been searching for a new manager for over two months now, but that process appears to be at an end finally.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Instagram that Postecoglou will be unveiled as the new Spurs boss ‘very soon’, and more recently gave the move his ‘here we go’ seal of approval.

The Australian has just concluded the season in style with Celtic having won the domestic treble.

According to Romano, the deal is now very close to being official after Spurs agreed a two-year contract with the option of a third.

But, Sinclair suggests the role at Tottenham Hotspur could take Ange Postecoglou down a path that leads to him eventually replacing Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

He told talkSPORT: “It could be a stepping stone. He has worked for the City Group twice already.

“By all accounts, they [Scott Munn, now at Spurs and previously at Man City] are massive fans of his. They have a lot of respect for him.

“That’s the only way he gets the Man City [job]. He has to prove himself in the Premier League first.

“I am not saying that [everything is about getting to Man City]. Like we have already seen, there is a pattern. He has worked for two City Group clubs already.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think this is a very preemptive discussion. Postecoglou hasn’t even taken the Tottenham job yet and people are already thinking about his future beyond Spurs.

Let’s just get him to Tottenham and see how he fares in the Premier League.

I personally can’t see City going for Postecoglou as Pep’s successor anyway.

They will be looking for the absolute best of the best when the time comes to find a replacement, and Postecoglou just doesn’t fit their profile.
