Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has admitted that this season has not been as enjoyable for him as previous years due to his lack of game time but he refused to divulge his plans for the summer window.
Laporte has fallen down Pep Guardiola‘s pecking order, having played just 993 minutes in the Premier League across 12 appearances this season (Transfermarkt).
90 min reported at the start of April that the centre-back is keen on playing regular football and is thus expected to push for a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The report claimed Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain had both expressed interest in the Spain international.
The Times also backed up Spurs’ interest in Laporte two weeks ago, stating that City will not stand in the 29-year-old’s way if he pushes for a move away this summer, with Guardiola’s men said to have identified RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol as a replacement.
When asked what the future holds for him, Laporte has now told Manchester World: “I can’t talk about these things.”
When asked if he has enjoyed this season, the centre-back responded: “Personally, much less than other seasons.
“It’s true that I’ve played a bit less but the most important thing is the team, the points, the matches and the trophies.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It seems pretty clear that Laporte is on his way out of Manchester City this summer but I do not think Spurs stand a realistic chance of signing the Spaniard, given that we cannot offer him Champions League football.
A whole host of top clubs across Europe are likely to vie for the 29-year-old’s signature.
