It turns out that Manchester City are set to earn £11.5m following Pedro Porro’s permanent switch to Tottenham, owing to a sell-on clause that Pep Guardiola’s men had agreed with Sporting Lisbon.

Spurs signed Porro during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make the transfer permanent, which was automatically activated last week, with the total deal costing the North London club £38.4m.

The right-back has had a mixed start to his career at Tottenham, having showcased his tremendous crossing ability and the impeccable timing of his overlaps but also struggling defensively on occasions.

He will hope to show a better version of himself in his first full season at Spurs, with Football London claiming a couple of weeks ago that Ange Postecoglou is a fan of the Spaniard.

It turns out that Man City stand to earn a tidy sum as soon as a result of Tottenham’s obligation to buy Porro.

Sky Sports previously reported previously that the Citizens had installed a 30 per cent sell-on clause when they sold Porro to Sporting Lisbon for £7.2m last summer on the back of his successful loan spell with the Portuguese giants during the 2021-22 season.

As a result, the Premier League champions will are expected to receive £11.5m of the £38.4m that Tottenham reportedly paid for the 23-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite surprising that Manchester City chose against buying Porro back, given that they could have signed him for 30 per cent cheaper than Spurs.

The Spaniard would have been a good fit for Guardiola’s men, who need reinforcements at right-back now that Cancelo is on his way out and Walker is coming to the twilight of his career.

City’s loss is Tottenham’s gain and I would not be surprised if the 23-year-old thrives under Ange Postecoglou next season.
