Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi since last summer, but have not made a move for the player as they fear his club will want too much money to sign him.
Guehi signed for Crystal Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 and has gone on to become one of the most promising young centre-backs in the Premier League over the last two years.
The 22-year-old has now made 82 appearances for Palace (Transfermarkt), but there has long been speculation that his future lies away from Selhurst Park.
Spurs are thought to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer (90 Min). According to GiveMeSport, the North London club may well look at Marc Guehi as an answer to their defensive issues.
It has previously been reported by Football Transfers that the young defender fits the profile of what Tottenham would be looking for in a centre-half.
Price tag is putting Tottenham off Marc Guehi
Now, the latest update on Tottenham Hotspur’s plans for the summer comes from Football.London, who reveal exactly why Spurs have not tried to sign Guehi before.
Apparently, Tottenham were keen on Guehi last summer and “that remains the case” as we enter another transfer window.
However, when it comes to making that interest more official, Spurs have been deterred, with the “main issue” thought to be the “competition for [Guehi’s] signature” and the fact that Palace would demand a “huge fee” for their star defender.
The report adds that Guehi has “suitors among most of the top teams in the Premier League.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Marc Guehi is a fantastic defender and someone I would love to see in a Spurs shirt.
He won’t come cheap, and there will be a long line of teams wanting to sign him, but we should definitely try to make this happen.
I can’t see it coming to fruition this summer, but maybe next year it will be more feasible.
