Brennan Johnson made a winning start to life as a Tottenham Hotspur player, and speaking after the victory over Sheffield United, the winger revealed just how happy he was with his debut.

After speculation mounted all summer, Brennan Johnson finally joined Tottenham on transfer deadline day. The Welshman left his boyhood club, Nottingham Forest, for the Lilywhites in a £47.5m deal (Sky Sports).

Johnson had to wait for the international break to be over before he could get a chance to turn out in a Spurs shirt, but he was handed his debut by his new manager, Ange Postecoglou, in the home tie against newly-promoted Sheffield United this afternoon.

The 22-year-old took to the field with 10 minutes of regulation play to go, and with his new team trailing 1-0 to the away side.

Thankfully, Spurs found a breakthrough in stoppage time thanks to a 98th minute goal from Richarlison. The game was turned completely on its head moments later, when the Brazilian turned provider for Dejan Kulusevski, to seal all three points for the North London side.

Brennan Johnson delighted with his debut

It may not have been easy, but Brennan Johnson has spoken of how much he enjoyed the game in his post-match interview with the club.

“It doesn’t get much better than that. It was a pleasure to be here and today just showed how much of a dream come true it is for me to be here and playing in games like this. I’m so happy right now… I was a bit nervous, but excited too, and playing in a team like this as we go 1-0 down, I knew I was going to get opportunities.

“To be involved in that on my first day, is only a sign of things to come… It just shows what we are about. We never want to give up, we keep running. It was important to keep going… Everyone is fit, everyone is strong.”

On the style of play Spurs are exhibiting right now, Johnson added: “Tactically it’s a bit different to what I’ve come from, but I’m asked to stick to my position and make things happen… [The dressing room] is a good place right now, we are all excited.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If you asked any Spurs fan before the game, a win was absolutely expected against Sheffield United, but to see the team come from behind and battle like that is a really encouraging sign of what this squad is capable of. It was nice to see Johnson make his debut and he very nearly had a goal to mark it, too.
