Speaking after his side came from behind to beat Sheffield United this afternoon, Ange Postecoglou praised the ‘spirit and character and resilience’ his team showed to secure the win.
Ange Postecoglou has made a rather incredible start to his time at Tottenham. Despite initial skepticism surrounding his appointment, the Australian has well and truly proved his doubters wrong.
The 58-year-old has very quickly transformed the fortunes and attitudes of the team, instilling a new sense of optimism around the club with his exciting brand of attacking football.
Results are matching the performances, too, with four wins and a draw in the opening five games of the Premier League campaign leaving Spurs in second place as things stand.
The Lilywhites left it late to secure a home victory over Sheffield United today. The Blades took the lead in the 73rd minute, but stoppage time goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski were enough to seal all three points for Spurs.
Postecoglou is happy with late show
In his post-match press conference (via Football.London), Postecoglou seemed to enjoy the frantic finish to the game which saw his side score in the 98th and 100th minute of the match, and suggested the late display is an encouraging sign of what his team is capable of.
He said: “Yeah, there was a fair bit going on out there today. A great ending, in terms of what we’re trying to build, there’s the football side of it but there’s also trying to build the spirit and character and resilience within the group and they showed bags of it today.
“Hopefully it gives us the opportunity to fuel that further. Every time you have to deal with adversity and you overcome it, I think it helps in what you’re trying to grow.”

It’s nice to be on the right end of the drama there, but I’m sure most people would rather we won the game comfortably in regulation time. Nevertheless, we have to enjoy these entertaining and ultimately satisfying moments, and hopefully the team can learn from it, too.
