Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United have both unequivocally condemned the racist abuse directed at Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham following the game on Saturday.
Foderingham played all 90 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and continued his good form, coming up with several crucial saves to keep the home side at bay.
It looked like the Sheffield club would walk away with all three points after Gustavo Hamer had given them an unlikely second-half lead.
However, Spurs produced a memorable comeback with late goals by Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski at the dying stage of injury time.
Racism will not be tolerated in the Premier League
After the game, Foderingham took to social media to reveal that he had received some racist abuse and that his family had been threatened.
He wrote on his Instagram stories (via talkSPORT): “I don’t mind opposition fans calling me every name under the sun, but be easy with the racism and family threats. Think before you type.”
Sheffield United condemned the racist and threatening messages sent to their number one and stated that they would work with the relevant bodies to investigate and support the goalkeeper.
