Football Insider claim that Manchester United have now identified Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez as an alternative to Harry Kane this summer.
The report states that Kane is viewed by the United hierarchy as the ‘number one priority’ for the summer transfer window, but the club are also looking at alternative number nines.
Victor Osimhen is not thought to be one of those as his injury record and price tag is said to have put off the Red Devils but Martinez is reportedly one of the names on their radar.
It is alleged that United believe a deal for Martinez would be ‘easier to do’ since he would command a smaller price tag than the likes of Kane.
This is because Inter Milan need to sell some of their assets this summer in order to offset their financial losses, particularly if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Interestingly, InterLive reported a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham were also eyeing Martinez as a potential replacement for Kane if the England captain leaves the club this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if Kane does not sign a new contract, Daniel Levy is certainly not going to make the negotiations very easy this summer.
So, unless United are determined to fight until the end the get the 29-year-old, they would have to turn their attention to other alternatives.
I certainly do not think Spurs will even start negotiating with the Red Devils for the striker until they have a new manager in place and present their talisman with a new contract.
