CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Chelsea have already contacted rumoured Tottenham target, Andre Onana regarding a move to Stamford Bridge.
Over the last couple of months, various names have been put forward as potential replacements for Hugo Lloris, with Onana’s now name starting to appear in the reports with increasing frequency.
90 min claimed a couple of days ago that that Inter star is one of four goalkeepers at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, alongside Brentford’s David Raya, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Porto’s Diogo Costa.
However, reports over the past few days have suggested that some of the same names are also on Mauricio Pochettino’s shortlist at Chelsea.
Football Insider claimed on Monday that the soon-to-be-confirmed Chelsea head coach is prioritising strengthening between the sticks and has put forward Raya and Onana as potential options to the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
If Jones’ latest update is to be believed, the Blues have already made concrete steps towards snapping up the Inter star.
The journalist has now told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea have reached out already and spoken to Onana at Inter and there’s nothing necessarily concrete or advanced at this point because Pochettino would have to input to any kind of signing.
“Particularly goalkeeper, as it’s perhaps the most intriguing signing for Chelsea in many ways, because they already have two strong challengers for the number one.
“But that’s without any clarity for Mendy and Kepa as to who actually would be the number one and a new manager is going to have to input into that as well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Much like last season when we saw Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal going after the same group of forwards (Jesus, Richarlison and Raphinha), I believe that we are going to see Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd involved in a scramble for various goalkeepers this summer, with the likes of Raya and Onana likely to be on the shortlist of all three clubs.
