Alessandro Bastoni has quashed Tottenham’s hopes of signing him this summer by admitting that he is now close to putting pen to paper on a new contract with Inter Milan.
Tottenham are expected to strengthen in central defence this summer, with TuttoSport reporting last month that Alessandro Bastoni was one of the names at the top of the North London club’s radar.
The report explained that the 24-year-old, who will enter the final year of his Inter Milan contract in June, was making substantial salary demands to sign a new deal with Inter.
This was also backed up by Inter Live, who revealed a few weeks ago that the Serie A club’s contract offer has fallen short of the €6m-€7m (£5.3-£6.1m) salary that Bastoni is demanding.
The publication added that the Nerazzurri could decide to cash in on Italy International for around €55m (£48.5m) if they are not able to reach an agreement with his entourage.
However, the centre-back has now dismissed the chances of him leaving the San Siro this summer, revealing that is now close to extending his stay at the club.
Bastoni said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I feel very good here at Inter, I’m on the same page with the club. I think we will continue together, the new deal is close.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Bastoni never really looked like a realistic target for Tottenham as he always seemed likely to sign a new contract with Inter.
Our chances of signing the 24-year-old pretty much evaporated when Antonio Conte departed and we subsequently fell short of Champions League qualification.
