Former Tottenham striker, Paul Stewart believes that appointing Graham Potter as the next Spurs boss could allow the North London club to snap up Brighton duo Yves Bissouma and Lewis Dunk this summer.
Potter seems to be one of the frontrunners to replace Jose Mourinho at Spurs next season, with reports indicating that the Brighton boss would be a popular appointment among the Tottenham squad.
It has been claimed that Spurs’ Technical Performance Director, Steve Hitchen, who is likely to have a big say on the club’s managerial appointment, is also in favour of a move for the 46-year-old.
The ever-reliable Alasdair Gold has even named Potter as one of the two candidates (along with Brendan Rodgers) who tick all the boxes Daniel Levy is looking for.
Some sources suggest that strengthening at centre-back and central midfield are priorities for Spurs ahead of the summer transfer window and Stewart believes that the North London club could strengthen both positions by raiding Brighton if they land Potter.
The 56-year-old, who was part of Tottenham’s FA Cup-winning side in 1991, told Football.London: “I would like to bring a young English manager in.
“That may be Graham Potter, give him the time to rebuild.
“No disrespect to Brighton, I look at Dunk and Bissouma and think if Potter came, they would also be attracted.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I have been on the Potter bandwagon for a long time but not specifically for the reason that Stewart has outlined. While Bissouma could prove an excellent acquisition if we get him, I believe that Potter could improve many of the players in our squad. I can see the likes of Lo Celso, Dele (and even young players like Skipp and Tanganga) potentially thriving in his system.
