Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Rodrigo Bentancur will make Tottenham Hotspur even stronger when he returns to full fitness.

There was a lot of pessimism surrounding Spurs coming into the new season after the club’s talisman Harry Kane left to join Bayern Munich.

In fact, Agbonlahor was one of several pundits who predicted before the start of the campaign that the Lilywhites would struggle to even finish in the top half of the table without Kane’s goals (Football Insider).

However, Postecoglou is quickly making many of Tottenham’s critics eat their words, with the team looking extremely assured defensively and controlling matches in a manner in which they have not for many years.

Spurs produced their best display yet against Bournemouth on Saturday as they completely dictated proceedings at the Vitality Stadium barring a 15-minute spell at the start of the second half.

On the back of their impressive 2-0 win over the Cherries, even Agbonlahor has changed his tune about Tottenham, with the pundit admitting that Postecoglou’s men will be an even bigger force when Bentacnur comes back.

Bentancur will be amongst the goals – Agbonlahor

The former Aston Villa striker told talkSPORT: “I watch Spurs now, and [there’s] patterns of play, Maddison getting on the ball, coming deep. You’ve still got Bentancur to come back, who can challenge Sarr for his position.

“Going forward, this Spurs team are going to cause a lot of teams a lot of problems. And when Bentancur comes back, he’s a top, top player; he’ll fit into this system and he’ll score a lot of goals I feel.”

As well as Sarr has played and the energy he brings to the table, the 20-year-old is still quite raw and it will take time for him to be the finished product.

Bentancur will bring even more control to the middle of the park as the Uruguayan, like Bissouma, is technically good enough to handle the ball in very tight areas.
