As Heung-min Son continues to impress this term, former Spurs man Jamie O’Hara has heaped praise on the Tottenham Hotspur skipper and claimed he is ‘one of the best’ in world football right now.
It seems we really do have the old Heung-min Son back once more, as the 31-year-old keeps up his phenomenal form in leading the line for Tottenham this season.
Since the departure of Harry Kane, it has been up to Son to spearhead the Spurs attack under Ange Postecoglou, and not only provide goals, but be the leader on the pitch as the new club captain, too.
He has flourished with this new responsibility, and with another goal to his name in the recent win over Fulham, Son now has seven goals this season (Transfermarkt).
It’s a far cry from the Son we saw last season, who struggled for form and confidence and was suffering from an injury for most of the year.
Is Heung-min Son one of the best in the world?
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Football Daily, O’Hara claimed Son is right up there as one of the finest players in the world right now, and suggested James Maddison could be key to helping the Spurs captain achieve great things this term.
He said: “Son for me, is one of the best players in world football. There’s no getting away from the fact that is a world-class player, and he’s been in the Premier League, scoring goals, for a long, long time. He’s got his confidence back, his belief back, and I think he’s brilliant as a number 9.
“30 goals is a lot of goals to score [to replace Kane], but why not? He’s on fire. He’s playing week in, week out. If he stays fit, and especially with Maddison in the side, who is a joy to watch… what he’s done [since joining] is incredible… he’s allowed Son to stay high and get on the end of things.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Son scored 24 goals in the 2021/22 campaign, and that was from playing out wide in a team that had Harry Kane to feed. Now, he is the main man, he’s on fire, and there’s every chance he can bag 30 goals this year.
