Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay a fee in the region of €30m (£26m) if they wish to sign Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven during the current transfer window, according to the Evening Standard.
The left-sided central defender is reported to have caught the attention of Tottenham and Premier League rivals Liverpool after an impressive season with the Bundesliga outfit, along with other clubs on the continent.
Van de Ven is currently on international duty with the Netherlands’ Under-21 side at the European Championships with two draws from their opening two fixtures and could face an early exit if they fail to beat co-hosts Georgia later today.
The 22-year-old was included in Louis van Gaal’s 39-man preliminary World Cup 2022 squad but did not make the final cut and is yet to earn a senior international cap.
The jet-heeled defender made 36 appearances across the Bundesliga and German cup last season (transfermarkt) and negotiations have reportedly already taken place between Tottenham and the former Volendam player who has four years remaining on his existing contract at the Volkswagen Arena (Guardian).
Tottenham must pay around £26m to sign Micky van de Ven
It is reported a fee of around £26million could be enough to tempt Wolfsburg in parting company with the young defender, who has previously expressed his interest in a move to the Premier League (Voetbal International).
His agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez said in an interview with German news outlet WAZ last week: “Micky has played a fantastic season. There are many clubs that are interested,
“It would be stupid to say now that he will definitely stay in Wolfsburg. Anything can happen this summer.
“A player like Micky, who has developed so well – the calls from the clubs come automatically. I am asked: What is the situation? Do we have a chance?
“As I said, anything can happen this summer. It could be that he leaves. But if the right club doesn’t come along, why shouldn’t Micky stay in Wolfsburg?”

A lack of pace in the Tottenham back line is a cause for concern with Eric Dier, Ben Davies, and the potential return to Clement Lenglet all not blessed with blistering pace.
Van de ven has shown during his time at Wolfsburg he is able to make up considerable ground to nullify an attacking threat, something which we were unable to do last season when Brentford tore the likes of Davies to pieces at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when they got in behind.
