Micky van de Ven has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s aims for the season ahead, and insists his side will not be afraid of anyone as they challenge for a top-four spot, or more.
Among the many new faces arriving at Tottenham this summer, few have been quite as impactful or important as Micky van de Ven.
While James Maddison is taking the headlines as Spurs’ new creative force, van de Ven has established himself as a calming and dependable partner for Cristian Romero in the heart of defence.
The Lilywhites remain unbeaten in the Premier League under new manager Ange Postecoglou and, after a dramatic win against Liverpool at the weekend, find themselves in second place in the league table.
It is still too early in the season to truly know what Spurs can achieve this year, but if the first seven games are anything to go by, it could be a great season for the North London club.
Micky van de Ven can’t rule out title challenge
Speaking to the Mirror about Tottenham’s ambitions for the campaign, van de Ven revealed he is not surprised by how well the club have started this season, and refused to put a limit on what can be achieved.
“It’s early to say if we are title candidates this year but we will keep pushing, keep pushing and we’re gonna see. We want the best this season so we’re gonna see where it will end.
“We are not afraid of any team. We will keep playing our way and hopefully, we can improve even more from how we are playing now and hopefully, we can keep pushing.
”I think of course you want Champions League because it’s the highest you can get next to being champions but it’s the biggest tournament and of course, that’s our goal for the season.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think any Spurs fan would take a top-four finish right now. We are flying, but this league is so competitive and it would take something incredible to disrupt Man City’s dominance. If we can end the season with Champions League qualification, it will be a success.
