Stephen Warnock has admitted that he was blown away by Micky van de Ven on Saturday and could not believe how quick the centre-back was.

Van de Ven has settled in seamlessly at Tottenham and although it is early days, his partnership with Cristian Romero already seems to have the making of a world-class pairing.

What has been most impressive about the 22-year-old is the maturity he has shown so far, with the Dutchman appearing to have the calmness and demeanour of someone who has played more than a century of Premier League games.

Van de Ven is surprising people with his pace

It is well documented that the former Wolfsburg star is quite pacy, which is undoubtedly one of the reasons that Ange Postecoglou wanted him, given his preference for a high defensive line.

Van de Ven showed that pace on a couple of occasions on Saturday, once outpacing his compatriot Cody Gakpo to the ball even when the Liverpool striker had a head start.

Warnock told The Football Show on Sky Sports about the Spurs defender: “I couldn’t believe how quick he [Micky van de Ven] was. Seeing him live, you go wow, they’ve got a player on their hands.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The exciting part for Spurs fans is that the likes of Van de Ven and Udogie seem to be getting better with each game as they continue to adjust to the system and the intensity of Premier League football.

The 22-year-old’s ceiling is extremely high and there is not a lot between him and Josko Gvardiol even though the Man City star cost a lot more.
