Fabrizio Romano has reportedly been told that new Tottenham signing, Pape Matar Sarr, has the potential to develop into a midfielder like Paul Pogba.

Sarr was arguably the most low-profile of the five players Tottenham brought through the door in the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old won many admirers after breaking into the Metz first-team midway into last season, with Spurs paying £14.6m for the midfielder’s services and loaning him back to the Ligue 1 club for the season.

In his interview with Spurs TV last week, Fabio Paratici waxed lyrical about Sarr, insisting that many big clubs around Europe wanted to snap up the youngster.

Romano has revealed he was informed by a source that the Senegal international has the potential to reach the very top.

Speaking about Sarr, the journalist said on his YouTube channel: “I am told this guy is really more than an interesting talent. He is really potential, fantastic talent.

“One of my sources told me he could become one style of Pogba player. He has style, he has potential, he has skills, so we will see what happens with this guy.”

The only way we close the gap with Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea is by identifying and recruiting top young talent as we are not in a position to go toe-to-toe with them in the transfer market.

Helping up spot talents like Sarr is exactly why Paratici was brought in by Levy. However, there is always an element of a gamble when it comes to singing young talent as one can never be 100 per cent sure how they will develop.
