Alejo Veliz can’t wait to play alongside his fellow countryman, Giovani Lo Celso, in the Lilywhite of Tottenham, now that both are fit and ready to compete.
Lo Celso is currently away with Argentina on international duty alongside Cristian Romero, something Alejo Veliz isn’t quite ready for yet at just 20 years of age.
However, the youngster has now made two cameo appearances for Tottenham, with Ange Postecoglou calling on Veliz from the bench in the dying minutes against both Liverpool and Luton Town.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported recently that Alejo Veliz is already a vocal member of the squad and has ‘absolutely wowed’ the Spurs coaches in training (the Gold and Guest podcast).
Postecoglou himself originally claimed that Veliz would be unlikely to earn many minutes in the first half of the season, but the 20-year-old has clearly impressed far faster than expected (Football.London).
Alejo Veliz can’t wait to play with Lo Celso at Spurs
Now it appears Tottenham’s young striker can’t wait to link up with Lo Celso on the pitch, who he reveals made a big effort in helping him to settle in England.
When asked if he is looking forward to playing with Gio, Veliz said (FootballLondon): “Yes, I truly am. Gio also comes from the club where I’m from, of which I’m also a fan. I honestly believe Gio is also very important for Argentina as a player, so yes, I’m looking forward to that moment.”
On the South American players welcoming him to Spurs, he added: “The truth is I’m very grateful to them because they welcomed me in the best way. They always ask if I needed anything and helped me in whatever they could.
“So, well, that was a great joy because I came to another country, another language. I know I’m not alone because I know they’re there to support me.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Alejo Veliz looks like an exciting prospect and it is always a good sign when they progress at a faster rate than the coaches expected them too. Who knows, opportunities might crop up for him to start a game or two as the months tick on.
