Things are going from bad to worse for Richarlison, as the Tottenham Hotspur man now looks set to be replaced in Brazil’s starting line-up for the next international fixture by Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.
It has been a tough 18 months for Richarlison since joining Tottenham Hotspur. The 26-year-old arrived with big hopes, but last season in particular was a poor showing, with Richarlison scoring just one league goal and three goals in total throughout the campaign (Transfermarkt).
There appears to be some slight improvement under Ange Postecoglou this season. Richarlison has two goals already this term, and is off the mark in the Premier League far earlier than he was last year (Transfermarkt).
Despite his inconsistent form at club level, Richarlison has always seemed to flourish for Brazil. The Spurs man found success at the World Cup last year, and now has 20 goals in 47 games for his country (Transfermarkt).
Richarlison to be dropped by Brazil
However, it seems Richarlison’s issues are starting to creep into his international standing, as Brazilian outlet Globo claim he is now going to be dropped for the upcoming game against Uruguay.
Brazil boss Fernando Diniz is set to make three changes for the World Cup qualifier, with Richarlison, Danilo, and Guilhermo Arana all looking likely to miss out.
To make matters worse for Richarlison, his Arsenal counterpart, Gabriel Jesus is being lined up to start the game. Richarlison has now failed to find the net for his country since the second-round win over South Korea at the World Cup in December.
Spurs Web Opinion
I really feel for Richarlison, and he’s one of the Spurs players I am most desperate to see succeed. There is such a good player in there, but he’s massively fueled by confidence and that just doesn’t seem to be there right now. He needs a goal or two for Spurs, and soon.
