Harry Redknapp is yet to be won over by Richarlison, admitting that he has not been a fan of the forward since his Everton days.
At the start of the season, there were some signs that Richarlison was struggling to cope with the pressure of filling Harry Kane’s shoes following the 30-year-old switch to Bayern Munich.
The Brazilian was unable to find the back of the net and looked a frustrated figure upfront, which is why Ange Postecoglou decided to move Son into the central role.
The decision has worked, with the South Korean having found the back of the net seven times since while Richarlison has also delivered some decent displays off the left.
The 26-year-old, who set up Son’s opener in the 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night, now has a goal and three assists in his last five Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).
Richarlison still hasn’t won everyone over
However, Redknapp suggested that Tottenham might have to upgrade the former Toffess star in January.
The former Spurs manager told talkSPORT (24/10 8:14 am) about Richarlison: “I think he’s got a bit to do for me still to convince me. To be honest I was like that with him at Everton. There was something about him that didn’t endear him to me that much.
“Listen, if they feel they need to bring someone in on that side and they’ll be looking then they’ll go out and do that.
“Hopefully, he’s turned the corner, he needs a goal or two doesn’t he really? His confidence is key, if you haven’t got the confidence it’s an impossible game.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I thought Richarlison delivered his best performance of the season against Fulham. The 26-year-old used the ball very well, delivered a couple of dangerous crosses into the box and was unlucky not to hit the back of the net with a curled effort in the first half.
