Football.London reporter Lee Wilmot has praised the performance Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg delivered on Monday against Fulham, revealing that the midfielder is not sure what the future holds for him.
Hojbjerg is not used to warming the bench, having captained Southampton before his move to Tottenham where he became one of the mainstays in the Spurs midfield in his first three years in North London.
The 28-year-old is also one of the leaders of the Danish national side, which is why he might have found it difficult to adjust to the bit-part role he has had under Ange Postecoglou this season.
Hojbjerg was handed his first Premier League start of the season on Monday since Yves Bissouam was suspended for the clash and showed Postecoglou that he can be relied upon, with the Australian singling out the Dane for praise after the 2-0 win (Football.London).
Hojbjerg is none the wiser on Tottenham future
There has been plenty of speculation over the last few weeks linking the experienced midfielder with a move to Juventus (Calciomercato.it), but Wilmot believes that the player does not know yet where he will be in January.
The journalist said on Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “Hojbjerg showed what a class individual he is really. He came in and gave it 100% even though he doesn’t know if his long-term future is at the club.
“He’s aware that Bissouma is the favoured man for Ange Postecoglou in that role. I can’t fault Hojbjerg and his professionalism.”
Spurs Web Opinion
If Postecoglou did not value Hojbjerg’s quality and professionalism, the Australian would not have brought on the Dane consistently as an impact substitute in the second half this season.
Ange clearly thinks that the 28-year-old has a lot to give but the reality is that he is simply not going to start ahead of either Sarr or Bissouma at the moment.
