James Maddison has praised rumoured Tottenham target Kalvin Phillips for his performance in England’s 3-1 win over Italy.

Even though Phillips has struggled to get much of a look in since his switch to Manchester City, Gareth Southgate has continued to show faith in the midfielder, who started for the Three Lions in what was a repeat of the Euro 2020 final on Tuesday at Wembley.

There has been plenty of speculation over the 27-year-old’s future recently, with Football Transfers claiming last week that Tottenham are keen on snapping up the former Leeds man, who was alleged to have made up his mind to leave the Etihad Stadium in January.

Could Maddison and Phillips team up for Spurs?

Meanwhile, 90 min also confirmed Spurs’ interest in Phillips a couple of days ago but the outlet claimed that the player was also on the radars of Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Phillips took to Instagram after England’s 3-1 win over Italy to express his delight at the result, with Maddison responding to the post with a clap and heart emoji.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do hold a genuine interest in Phillips, perhaps Postecoglou can use Maddison to put in a good word to his England teammate about the club ahead of the January window.
