Journalist Rudy Galetti says we cannot completely rule out Conor Gallagher joining Tottenham Hotspur in January despite Chelsea’s willingness to open contract talks with the midfielder.

Gallagher has established himself as a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield this season, having started every single one of Chelsea’s seven Premier League matches so far.

However, some reports over the last couple of weeks have continued to indicate that the Blues hierarchy are open to cashing in on the 23-year-old amidst Tottenham’s interest (The Athletic).

This claim was partially refuted by CaughtOffisde who suggested last week that Chelsea might be open to tying the midfielder down to a new contract.

The publication explained that the West London club are ready to open talks over a new deal with Gallagher as a means to show their commitment to Pochettino’s long-term project at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham have not given up on Conor Gallagher

However, Galetti has now stated that Chelsea are not rushing to tie down their academy graduate, hinting that Spurs have not completely given up hope of landing the player.

The journalist told Tribal Football about Gallagher: “His contract expires in June 2025 and there wouldn’t be a rush on Chelsea’s side to talk about a possible contract renewal.

“However, the Blues want to start discussions anyway, having already had to resist pressure from other clubs this summer. Conor – as is well known – attracted the attention of many Premier League teams and continues to do so.

“For this reason, let’s keep an eye on Tottenham, already in January: Spurs could make a concrete move following the possible farewell of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.”

While Hojbjerg looks certain to leave Spurs in January at this point, it seems unlikely that Chelsea will put Gallagher up for sale. However, if the 23-year-old does not sign a new contract over the next three months, I expect Tottenham to test the waters with an offer for the player in January.
