According to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs showing an interest in Cristian Romero.
Romero joined Atalanta on a two-year loan deal from Juventus last summer and the centre-back has been a revelation since his move to Bergamo.
The 22-year-old carried his impressive form into the Copa America, playing a starring role for Argentine as they ended their 28-year wait for a major trophy on Saturday after beating Brazil 1-0 in the final.
Calciomercato claim that Atalanta have the option to sign the defender permanently for £13.7m and plan to do so this summer, a year ahead of schedule.
The report reveals that the Serie A club could look to seal Romero’s signing and sell him on for a profit immediately.
Tottenham are named along with Barcelona and Manchester United as the three clubs showing interest in the centre-back. Atalanta are said to be looking for a free in the region of £52m for Romero.
Spurs Web Opinion
Fabio Paratici will know Romero well from his time at Juventus and so it would not be a surprise to see us move for the 22-year-old. However, I doubt anyone would pay upwards of £50m for the centre-back. Atalanta will likely have to lower their asking price considerably if they are planning to sign the defender and sell him on for a profit.
