Speaking ahead of the big North London derby this weekend, Tottenham’s Cristian Romero has been asked about his side’s chances of lifting the title this season and remained cautious on the matter.
Cristian Romero has seen the highs and lows of Tottenham Hotspur in his relatively brief stay at the club. In his first season, the centre-back helped the Lilywhites climb into the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
Last season, however, Spurs suffered a disastrous campaign which saw them go through three managers and finish in eighth place in the Premier League.
There is something of a new dawn at the club now, though, with Ange Postecoglou‘s tenure getting off to a highly promising start. Spurs are unbeaten in the first five games of the league season and find themselves in second place going into the weekend.
Next up is a stern test against fierce rivals Arsenal, and the outcome of the North London derby will be an interesting indication as to how far Spurs could go this year.
Every game is a final, says Cristian Romero
Chatting to Optus Sport recently, Romero was asked about his side’s chances for the season ahead, and whether they could even clinch the title.
He said: “This club needs to be competing for the top four. We’ll see [about the title]. We are treating every game as if it was a final. First up we have Arsenal, and we’re treating it as a final, not just because it’s a derby but because that’s how we want to approach games this season.”

It’s way too early to even think about winning the title. We’ve had a brilliant start to the season and long may it continue, but it would be foolish to think we are title contenders already. If we are still in the mix by Christmas, then we can get excited.
