Cristian Romero has told his international teammate Alexis Mac Allister to ‘cry at home’ after the Liverpool star complained about the refereeing performance of Simon Hooper.

Tottenham got yet another late winner yesterday against a nine-man Liverpool side to move to within a point of league leaders, Manchester City.

However, much of the post-match discussions have revolved around some of the controversial referring decisions that were made.

Some pundits such as Gary Neville have suggested that Curtis Jones was unlucky to get a red card for his tackle on Yves Bissouma on 26 minutes, stating that the Liverpool star’s foot slipped over the ball (Sky Sports via Mirror).

There has also been a lot said about the referee’s decision to send Diogo Jota off, with Jurgen Klopp claiming after the game that the Portuguese winger ‘barely touched’ Destiny Udogie for his first yellow (ESPN).

However, what Liverpool will feel most aggrieved by is the goal that was disallowed in the first half even though Luis Diaz was onside in the build-up, with PGMOL admitting after the game that a ‘significant human error’ occurred (The Athletic).

Romero and Mac Allister get feisty on social media

Mac Allister suggested on social media after the game that Tottenham were helped by the officials by commenting on Romero’s Instagram post: ‘Normal when you have 12 players.’

According to The Daily Mail, Romero responded: ‘Cry at home’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Liverpool can have too many complaints about Curtis Jones’ sending off as one can argue that even though the midfielder might not have intended to hurt Bissouma, it was quite a dangerous tackle.

There is no doubt that Jota’s first yellow was soft but the winger should have known better than to go to ground after being booked. However, the human error committed by VAR for the offside is inexcusable and Liverpool certainly have a right to feel angered by that.

We will never know how the game would have been affected had that goal been given but I thought our performance was quite good even when it was 11 vs 11. We are certainly owed a slice of good fortune against Liverpool after all the bad luck we have had against them over the last few years.
