Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted that the club will have discussions over making Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan deal permanent over the coming months.

Carter-Vickers has excelled at Celtic Park since joining the Scottish giants on loan during the summer.

The centre-back has been one of the standout performers for the club so far this season and was a key figure in the club’s Scottish League Cup triumph, with the Bhoys beating Hibernian 2-1 in the final last week.

According to reports, Celtic would have to pay £10m to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis.

The USA international admitted last month that he would be open to staying at Celtic Park beyond the end of this season.

Postecoglou has now revealed Celtic signed the Spurs academy graduate on loan with the idea of making the deal permeant.

He said that discussions over the 23-year-old’s future will be held over the coming months but admitted that the decision could come down to the player himself.

When asked if wanted to keep hold of Carter-Vickers beyond the summer, the Celtic boss told The Daily Record: “Absolutely. I wouldn’t have brought him in if I thought it was just a short-term thing.

“All the players we have brought in, we have done so with some thought around building a team. And building a team means more than just 12 months. A lot of that depends on the player himself.

“But those discussions will happen over the next couple of months. January gives us an opportunity to look at our squad again. We can have a think about what we want to do in this window and beyond.

“Part of that discussion will be around players we have on loan and seeing what decisions we want to make on them. If the players are happy here and want to stay here, we will get round to those discussions.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Reading between the lines of Postecoglou’s statement, it sounds like Celtic are prepared to activate the clause to make the deal for Carter-Vickers permanent, provided the centre-back agrees to the move.

I think it will be a good move for all three parties involved. At 23 years of age, Carter-Vickers now needs to settle down at a club for the sake of his development.
