Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has said that while he is hopeful that the Scottish club will sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, he insisted that he is not going to try and convince the defender to make the move if he does not want to do so.

Carter-Vickers has been outstanding since his loan move to Celtic Park in the summer, establishing himself as a mainstay in Postecoglou’s backline.

The Spurs academy graduate played a crucial role in the Bhoys’ Scottish League Cup win and will be hoping to add a league winner’s medal this season, with Celtic currently sitting at the top of the league table.

The 24-year-old admitted back in November that he would be open to staying with the Glasgow giants beyond the end of his loan spell (Scotsman).

Celtic are thought to have the option to sign centre-back permanently for a fee of around £6m (Glasgow World).

Postecoglou has now admitted discussions to sign both Carter-Vickers and Jota, who is on loan from Benfica, will be taking place in the near future.

When asked about the pair, the Celtic boss told The Scottish Sun: “Those discussions will be taking place over the course of the next period with Michael Nicholson at the forefront of that.

“It’ll take care of itself. If I say we’re closer regarding them, it’s as if something’s happened. We all live in a romanticised version of life but it usually comes down to what drives the individual.

“Finances come into it, and other factors can influence the decision. I’m not going to try and convince anyone to stay.

“If you don’t understand how special it is to be a part of this place, nothing I’m going to say will change that.

“I know Cam and Jota love representing this l club. They’re contributing right now and that’s all I need to see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how well Carter-Vickers has done this season, I do not expect Spurs to accept any fee lower than the permanent clause stipulated in the loan deal. So, one would think that the only “discussions” to be had between Spurs and Celtic over the fee would be on the way it is structured in installments.
