Gary O’Neil has heard from those he knows at Tottenham Hotspur that Ange Postecoglou is unwavering in his belief on how he wants his side to play, and would not change his style for any opponent.
While it was well documented when Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham that he gets his sides playing a possession-based, high-intensity brand of football, most would have expected it to take time for the players to get used to the new style, given that Spurs had been a counter-attacking team for years.
However, the Australian has seemingly managed to get across his ideas fairly quickly, with the players appearing to now have a clear understanding of their roles.
The first-half performance that Tottenham produced against Fulham on Monday was arguably the best football we have seen the side play this season, with the Cottagers struggling to cope with the pace at which the home side moved the ball and the way the players interchanged positions.
Postecoglou has a reputation among PL managers
O’Neill revealed during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game that he does not expect the Lilywhites to change their approach no matter who they come up against
The Wolves boss said on Monday Night Football: “I know a few people at Spurs and I have spoken to a few of them about the work that is going on and Ange is just uncompromising in what he wants.
“He will not change for anybody. They are going to go about it their way and they won’t think ‘Oh it’s Man City today we’re going to come off of this’. It’s going to be his way no matter what and without the ball, they are unbelievably aggressive, just go after everybody no matter what.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Postecoglou has shown that he does not compromise on his principles of play for any team, he has also demonstrated that he has some pragmatism and is willing to tweak things slightly depending on the opponent his side is coming up against.
