Ian Wright believes that playing Son Heung-min through the middle is the ideal solution for Tottenham Hotspur, given how clinical the South Korean is when chances fall to him.

Since being moved into the central striker role, Son has found the back of the net six times in four Premier League matches.

Spurs fans will certainly not be surprised at the South Korean’s proficiency as a number nine as he has stepped up in the past to deliver goals when Harry Kane has been out with an injury, most memorably in Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final in 2019.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that the Spurs captain can have a similarly prolific season to the one he had two years ago, with the 31-year-old winning the Golden Boot in 2020-21.

Richarlison on the left and lots of goals for Son

Wright believes that the Australian should continue to play Ricahrlison on the left and Son through the middle as he did against Liverpool.

The Arsenal legend told Premier League Productions (02/10/23 at 2:20 pm): “I think Son playing down the middle is brilliant for them because Richarlison can easily do that (play on the left).

“So, in respect of being in the box. We know that we miss his dribbling and pace. But for a low-touch striker, who finishes so clinically I think he is going to score a lot of goals this season.”

Son is the sort of player who does not need to be involved much in the game to make a difference in the final third. His chance-conversion rate has always been up there with the best in the world, which is why Ange would want him as close to the goal as possible.
