Micky van de Ven revealed that Son Heung-min correctly predicted ahead of the clash against Luton Town that he was going to get his first goal for Tottenham.

It was Van de Ven’s goal that proved the difference between the two sides on Saturday as Spurs emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road despite playing with ten men for the entirety of the second half.

The goal came at the start of the second period, with James Maddison producing a moment of magic down right before picking out the Dutch centre-back, whose shot squeezed underneath Thomas Kaminski in the Luton goal.

Van de Ven defended resolutely for much of the second period as the home side went directly to forwards in an attempt to get an equaliser.

Postecoglou praised the defensive unit for the fight they showed and admitted that the 22-year-old’s physical attributes shone through against Luton’s physically imposing attackers (Football. London).

Micky Van de Ven enjoyed his first Spurs goal

Speaking to TNT Sports after the 1-0 win, the former Wolfsburg man said: “Incredible match, I think we showed a great mentality as a team and I am really happy to score my first goal in the Premier League and for Tottenham and the clean sheet is the best for defenders.

“I knew that Maddison likes the cutback so I stood back and he played it perfectly to my left and I tapped it in, amazing feeling.

“It was funny because when we were in the bus and coming to the stadium, Sonny told me ‘we’re going to make your first goal today’ and I said maybe who knows and I scored my first goal, so perfect.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have never seen a centre-back, particularly one so young, settle so easily into the Premier League. Even the likes of Vertonghen, who was a lot more experienced when he arrived at Spurs, took a couple of seasons to showcase his best. There is no doubt that we have a special player on our hands.
