South Korea boss Jurgen Klinsmann has said that Son Heung-min’s fitness is still a question mark and he is not certain whether the Tottenham man will be available to start the fixture against Vietnam this afternoon.
It has been reported over the past couple of weeks that Son had been playing with an injury issue (Lyall Thomas), which perhaps explains why the Tottenham captain did not complete 90 minutes against Liverpool and Luton Town.
The forward was an unused substitute for South Korea in their 4-0 win over Tunisia last week, with their football association’s official website confirming that he missed the game as he had ‘recently suffered a groin injury’.
Heung-min Son is still not fully fit for South Korea
That understandably led to some worries among Spurs fans but Son confirmed over the weekend that his injury is not serious and that he will train with his teammates ahead of the clash against Vietnam (Donga).
However, Klinsmann has now indicated that the Tottenham star is a doubt for the clash at the Suwon World Cup Stadium this afternoon.
When asked about the fitness of Son and Red Star Belgrade’s Hwang In-beom, he told Yonhap News Agency: “We have to check their physical condition at the end during training today, and it is still a question mark, and we will decide after judging how much they can play.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Klinsmann feels Son has a chance to play against Vietnam suggests that his injury is not too serious and that the forward could still be fit to feature against Fulham.
Postecoglou will be hoping that the South Korea boss does him a favour and rests the 31-year-old for today’s clash.
