Daniel Levy has praised Ange Postecoglou’s directness and honesty, admitting that the Australian is the sort of manager that Tottenham needed as the club had to get back to their roots.
Last week, The Athletic had a detailed article explaining how Postecoglou had completely transformed the mood at the North London club in his first 100 days in charge.
The article did not just talk about the changes he made stylistically but also about the 58-year-old’s management style, revealing that he had personally taken the time out to get to know all the staff at the club.

It was said that the non-playing staff did not need to worry about sudden schedule changes and that Postecoglou trusted the expertise of the various departments at the club rather than overruling them like some of his predecessors.
Levy has now opened up on how much easier the new Spurs head coach is to work with, owing to his honesty.

The Tottenham chairman told the Fan Forum held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (19/09/23 as quoted by Football London): “It feels like a lifetime ago now.
“Actually, it was very easy, because Ange I would say is just a normal bloke and it was wonderful to be able to have a conversation with him where we could talk about anything and he was very direct and honest.
“I like someone who just tells me as it is, no one that plays games, no one that says one thing to me and then one thing to someone else. I’m not talking about anyone else. This club needed to go back to its roots.
“Honestly, there was a lot of pressure on me to bring in somebody that was a big name. I just wanted somebody who understood our DNA, would play attacking football, that would give young players a chance, believe in the academy, would build a relationship with the fans and understand the resources that we have and don’t have as a club and be part of a team. Ange, I have to say, is a breath of fresh air.”
Levy added: “One of the reasons why we asked Ange to become our manager is that he believes in the academy. The relationship between the first team and the academy is really important. This is a club where we as fans get a great thrill out of seeing a player coming out of the academy and into the first team.
“We want to see that flourish and I think that over the years we’ve got some very good players in our academy and we’ll see them coming into the first team.”

It sounds like Levy is taking a direct potshot at Conte with his statement about Ange ‘not playing games’. The Italian would have certainly not been an easy man to work with and while he deserves sympathy for the challenges he endured in his personal life last season, his tendency to constantly shift blame would not have gone down well with Levy and co.
