As negotiations to sign David Raya from Brentford drag on, it seems Tottenham Hotspur have now started to look elsewhere in the form of Empoli’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Spurs are on the hunt for a new number-one goalkeeper to replace Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman has suffered a drastic drop in form in the last year and is now expected to be one of the players to leave Tottenham this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to revamp his squad (Telegraph).

Since the end of the season, it has appeared that David Raya would be the man to replace Lloris.

Fabrizio Romano recently told GiveMeSport that Spurs were ‘confident’ of finalising a deal for the Spanish stopper.

While personal terms have been agreed with the player, Tottenham are thought to be reluctant to meet Brentford’s £40 million asking price for the 27-year-old (The Times).

As a result, Raya has apparently been informed that Spurs are looking at other alternatives for their goalkeeping problem (90 Min).

Guglielmo Vicario confirmed as a Spurs target

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed today that Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario is one of the names on the list of alternatives that Tottenham Hotspur are exploring this summer.

Vicario is described as “one of the best goalkeepers of the last Serie A season,” and it seems the buzz surrounding the player has stretched to the Premier League as Spurs are now thought to be “very interested” in acquiring his services.

It was claimed Tottenham were keen to know if any prospective “negotiation can be unlocked quickly” as the Lilywhites put in place a contingency plan in case the move for Raya fails to materialise.

And now Di Marzio has provided another update on the situation, claiming that a €20m (£17.2m) agreement in principle has been reached between Spurs and Empoli for Vicario. Empoli are now just waiting for the official written offer to arrive in the coming hours.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s good that we are looking at other options to cover our backs in case the Raya deal falls through, but he would still be my number-one choice this summer.

That said, Vicario is a talented keeper and we are definitely paying attention to the right kind of players it seems.
