Le10Sport have revealed that Marseille, Rennes and Lille have all expressed interest in signing Pape Matar Sarr on loan this summer.

Sarr played the second half of Tottenham’s first pre-season friendly of the summer against West Ham United on Tuesday, with the midfielder impressing in a box-to-box role.

Le10 Sport claim that Spurs are now ‘studying’ the possibility of loaning out the 20-year-old ahead of the new season, with multiple French clubs said to have been alerted by the situation.

It is explained that if the Senegal international is loaned out, Tottenham want to ensure that it is to a club where he will be a regular starter.

Pape Matar Sarr is a popular boy in the market

According to the report, Marseille have been ‘monitoring’ Sarr ‘very closely’ since May, with club president Pablo Longoria said to ‘appreciate’ the midfielder’s profile ‘very much’.

Les Phoceens have now allegedly been joined in the race for the Tottenham man by both Lille and Rennes, who are on the lookout for potential reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Le10Sport add that Spurs have not made a final decision on Sarr’s future yet and that the ‘battle’ between the three aforementioned clubs will ‘begin’ as soon as the player is made available on loan.

Unless Postecoglou feels that Sarr can play at least 10 to 15 games next season (which is unlikely given that we do not have European football), it would be sensible to loan out the 20-year-old so that he can get regular game time under his belt and continue developing.
