Don Hutchison says he would take Son Heung-min over Erling Haaland at the moment, given the Manchester City star’s struggles over the last few weeks.

Following Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham in the summer, there were many who questioned where Spurs’ goals were going to come from this campaign.

Those questions became even louder after Richarlison’s struggles in the first few games but Son has shown since being moved to the number nine role that he is more than capable of finding the back of the net with regularity if he gets chances.

Is Heung-min Son better than Haaland right now?

The new Spurs captain has scored six in the first eight Premier League matches of the season (Transfermarkt), currently sitting joint second in the race for the Golden Boot behind Haaland, who has eight to his name so far (BBC Sport).

However, the Norwegian star has not found the back of the net since City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on September 23, and Hutchinson has said that he would take Son over the 23-year-old on current form.

The pundit told ESPN FC: “You can’t say he’s [Haaland] on top form, can you? In eight games, you can’t. If the question is, who do you think the best striker in world football and the Premier League is, it’s Erling Haaland.

“But who’s been in amazing form in the first eight games of the season? It’s Son, Isak and Salah.”

Haaland’s deficiencies outside the box have been covered up by the fact that he plays for City, who dominate most games and only need someone to put a ball in the back of the net.

In terms of his ability on the ball, the Norwegian is not too much better than Romelu Lukaku, although there is no doubting his goalscorer’s instinct.

While Son might not have Haaland’s physicality, the South Korean is certainly better technically and one can also argue that he is a better finisher with both feet although he does not sniff goalscoring opportunities in the box the way that the City star does.
