TEAMtalk have now suggested that Arsenal could decide against making a move for rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney if Brentford demand a massive fee for the striker.
Over the past few weeks, multiple outlets have reported that Spurs are set to compete with Arsenal and Chelsea for Toney’s signature when his ban lapses in January.
This includes The Daily Express, who revealed on September 23 that the centre-forward has already expressed his desire to leave Brentford and that the Bees have started looking for potential replacements.
The Daily Mirror reported last week that Mikel Arteta is hopeful of convincing the England international to move to the Emirates over their London rivals.
Toney asking price could be too high for Arsenal
However, TEAMtalk have now suggested that the Gunners’ pursuit of Toney could hinge on Brentford’s valuation of the player.
It is explained that while there was initial feeling that the West London club would consider bids close to £50m for the 27-year-old, some sources now believe that they could demand upwards of £80m.
The report adds that if Thomas Frank’s men do request such a fee, it is unclear if Arsenal would continue talks or shift their attention to other options.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be extremely surprised if Tottenham consider paying anywhere near £80m for Toney, particularly given that additions at centre-back and central midfield are more urgent requirements in January.
While Chelsea might be willing to meet Brentford’s valuation, it remains to be seen if the 27-year-old would want to move to Stamford Bridge, given the predicament the Blues are in at the moment.
