Bacary Sagna has become the latest ex-player to dismiss Tottenham’s chances of sustaining a title bid, stating that he expects the Lilywhites to collapse sooner rather than later.

Spurs have undoubtedly been the surprise package of the season so far, with hardly anyone giving them a chance of even competing for the top-four spot before the start of the campaign.

However, eight games in, Ange Postescoglou’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, with the Australian managing to successfully implement a possession-based, high-temperature style of play.

Tottenham’s position in the table has sparked debate over their prospects this season, with many pundits, including the likes of Gary Neville, opining that the North London club simply do not have the squad depth to sustain their current run of form (Gary Neville podcast).

Ex-Arsenal star shocks the world with anti-Spurs view

Sagna has now insisted that Spurs do not have the star power needed to sustain a title challenge, remarking that Son is the only player of the required calibre to do so.

The former Arsenal right-back told The Sun: “The title race will be between Arsenal and Manchester City as Spurs will collapse, as usual.

“And that’s not just me speaking as an Arsenal fan. I don’t see them being consistent enough all season. Apart from Heung-Min Son, I don’t see anyone in that team that can lead the team or play a vital role in Spurs’ title race.”

We are only at the start of our project under Postecoglou and it is not realistic to expect us to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the moment. A top-four finish would be an outstanding achievement for the Australian in his first season in charge.
