Heung-min Son will have a new number on his back for the game against Crystal Palace. Actually, every Spurs player will, but it’s all part of a plan to celebrate the legacy of the club.
After the 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night, Tottenham returned to the top of the Premier League table and are currently two points clear of both Arsenal and Manchester City.
The Lilywhites have a chance to go five points clear when they take on Crystal Palace on Friday night, which could be a real statement for Ange Postecoglou‘s men heading into the weekend.
It’s a great time to be a Spurs fan right now, with all eyes on the future and the potential success the club can achieve under this new regime.
However, a new initiative by the club is taking a look back to the past, and celebrating every single player to have turned out for Tottenham Hotspur since the first competitive fixture way back in 1894.
What are Tottenham Hotspur legacy numbers?
On the Tottenham Hotspur website, details of this fantastic new idea are revealed, as well as a list of all the legacy numbers for the 879 players to have made an appearance for the club.
Of note, is current club captain, Heung-min Son, whose legacy number is 805. This will be featured under his collar on his matchday shirt on Friday night, and throughout the rest of the season. The latest to be added to the list is Alejo Veliz, having made his debut against Liverpool this season.
On the initiative, Daniel Levy said: “Our legacy number initiative is our way of recognising the contributions of those that have worn our colours with pride during our Club’s long and rich history, making a truly unique connection between players of our past, present and future.”
“The privilege to wear the shirt is huge. It’s always meant something to play for Tottenham and it always will.”@RyanMason delivers the news to the squad following the launch of our legacy numbers 🤍 pic.twitter.com/uQxBmbaBco

Spurs Web Opinion
I love this idea. I think it’s a fantastic way to celebrate the rich history of the club and all the amazing players who have pulled on the shirt. It must have taken quite the effort to arrange, but it’s worth it, and fans are going to really enjoy this unique initiative.
