Louis Saha has said that Richarlison and Son Heung-min do not look like they can play together and urged Tottenham to snap up Ivan Toney in January.

Richarlison started the season as the number nine but the Brazilian failed to find the back of the net in the first few games of the campaign.

That led to Ange Postecoglou moving Son to a central role and the decision has paid off so far, with the Spurs captain scoring six times in the four matches that he has played centrally.

Richarlison has also impressed over recent weeks, with two goals and an assist to his name in the last three league games.

Curiously, Postecoglou decided to start the 26-year-old on the left and play the South Korean through the middle against Liverpool, and the pair combined well for Tottenham’s opener.

Meanwhile, reports over the last few weeks have suggested that Spurs could battle it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for Toney’s signature in the January transfer window (Daily Express).

Could Ivan Toney solve Tottenham’s problems?

Saha believes that the Brentford star has all the attributes to be successful at a club like Tottenham.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Toney, the Frenchman told Betfred: “Ivan can adapt to any team. He’s mentally very strong, so I’m confident that he will make the right decision for himself.

“He can play in any team because of how strong and technically gifted he is. Ivan’s also very mobile and has the right formula you need to play as a striker for any club.

“Manchester United certainly need more options up front as all the top clubs have various options to choose from. Tottenham also definitely need another striker because the combination between Son Heung-min and Richarlison isn’t working too well at present, so that’s another possible move for Ivan.

“All we know is that a lot of teams will be interested in signing him in January and I’m sure he would be a key player at a big club rather than just being another member of the squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am certain that Tottenham will not compete for Toney’s signature in January. Postecoglou appears happy with Son and Richarlison as his options upfront for the time being, which is why I do not expect Spurs to enter the market for a centre-forward until next summer.
