The Daily Mirror have revealed that Arsenal are now stepping up their pursuit of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Ivan Toney.
Plenty of reports over the last few weeks have backed Spurs to explore a move for Toney in January when the striker’s ban for breaching the FA’s betting rule runs out.
The latest such report came from The Daily Express last week, with the publication naming Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea as the three clubs at the front of the queue for the 27-year-old’s signature.
It was revealed in the report that Toney had informed Brentford of his desire to leave the club and that the Bees had already started the process of looking for a replacement.
Arsenal step up interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney
The Mirror have now claimed that Arsenal are making some advances towards the England international ahead of the January transfer window.
The report claims that Toney has made it clear to Brentford that he will not be signing a new deal, with the West London club said to value him at £60m.
It is alleged that Mikel Arteta is keen to add a proven goalscorer to his attack and wants someone with a physical presence upfront.
The publication asserts that the Gunners see Toney as a good fit and would have made a move for him in the summer if not for his ban.
Spurs Web Opinion
I expect both Arsenal and Chelsea to make a move for Toney in January as both clubs are in need of a 20-goal striker. I do not see Spurs getting involved in a bidding war for the Brentford star as I expect the club to go for a younger option such as Jonathan David or Gift Orban.
