As the search for a new Spurs manager continues, another hunt begins to unfold.

In a little over a months’ time, the transfer window opens and after indifferent experiences over the last several summers, it is now more important than ever for Levy and Hitchen to come up with the goods.

However, the Mourinho and Poch lure for big-name signings is now long gone, and there will be no Ndombeles or Bales this year.

Shrewd and savvy Leicester-style recruitment is Spurs’ only route back into title contention and this time it has to be right. But who, realistically, could we sign that would transform this yoyo team that just cannot seem to find consistency?

Yves Bissouma (Brighton)

Market value: £15.3m (TransferMarkt)

Bissouma is that all-action, technically-wicked, box-to-box CDM that would complement Hojberg perfectly, and is just 24 years of age.

Spurs have tried multiple options there this year, Ndombele has dropped off since January, Sissoko just doesn’t seem to care (must sell) and Lo Celso has not hit his Project Restart performances since his lengthy lay off.

I feel the former and the latter should battle it out for the no 10 position whilst we bring in a new central midfielder who can do it all. Bissouma is that player.

We are also linked with Bissouma’s current manager, Graham Potter, and it could be a real coup for Tottenham if we brought these two in over the summer, surely providing Hojberg with another solid defensive presence which we just haven’t seen this season.

Max Aarons (Norwich)

Market value: £18m (TransferMarkt)

Hardly a new one on Spurs’ radar having been linked with the Norwich RB last summer, but we are all aware of our right-back woes. Aurier may have improved this season but he has still failed to secure the trust of many.

Aarons could easily come in and make that position his. Quick, strong and possessor of a ferocious delivery, Aaron’s is highly rated and surely sought after by many top clubs.

Norwich’s promotion will not help his price tag but Spurs could have leverage as Oliver Skipp’s parent club.

It is no secret they want him to stay and although Skipp has the attributes to be future Spurs captain, maybe another season on loan at Premier League level, with Aarons coming the other way, could be a shrewd piece of business from Levy.

Patson Daka (Red Bull Salzberg)

Market Value: £18m (TransferMarkt)

With Carlos Vinicius returning to Portugal, it is safe to say his time in North London didn’t work out as we thought it would. Kane’s dubious comments have also left us twitching regarding how long he has left at the Lane.

Either way, a new striker this summer is paramount. Patson Daka perfectly fits the profile of what we need, he will be a superstar. Rapid, tall, strong and two-footed, Daka is incredibly complete at the tender age of 22.

24 league goals in 24 games at Redbull Salzberg this season has seen some dub him as the new Samuel Eto’o. Yes, it is early, but would he be the ultimate understudy to Kane? I think so.

Joachim Anderson (Fulham – on loan from Lyon)

Market Value: £13.5m (TransferMarkt)

Remember these are realistic signings, not dream signings. Not everyone is convinced but this guy has been the real deal this season. A natural-born leader who can also play out from the back.

Toby is sadly past it and Dier has been well… dire at times this year. Mason hasn’t been playing him but we all know Rodon is a future staple of the Spurs defence, he just needs competency next to him.

Andersen has Premier League experience and for some reason the Lyon fans have not taken to him, for sure he is an achievable target and one that would transform our defence. Dare I say it, he reminds me of Ruben Dias, and we all know the effect that he has had.

Marcel Sabitzer (RB Leipzig)

Market Value: £38m (TransferMarkt)

The one we all want. Yes maybe this guys is slightly more unrealistic than the others but a lot of rumours have been stirring over the last six months or so. Football London have reported that he is “75% to join Spurs” and his contract is running down.

This makes Sabitzer a distinct possibility. And what a possibility he is to have. Able to play at no 8, no 10 or out on the right, Marcel Sabitzer, is on the brink of that world-class bracket.

His versatility is completely what we need, because assuming Bale does come back, he cannot play every game, and Lamela and Bergwijn’s output just isn’t there.

Sabitzer is a cultured player who has been under the tutelage of now-Bayern manager Nagelsmann and can provide that extra ball-retention to sustain attacks, a competitive edge we seem to have lost as so many of attacks falter and die after surrender possession.

For sure the most difficult to pull off on this list, not to mention the most expensive, but Spurs fans will salivate at the prospect of seeing him line up with the likes of Son, Kane and Ndombele because he really is a Rolls-Royce of a footballer.
