Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has been given a huge downgrade in his player rating for the upcoming EA FC 24 video game, reflecting the poor season he and the rest of the Spurs squad endured last term.

Of all the Tottenham squad last season, it is perhaps Heung-min Son who displayed the most drastic downturn in form throughout the campaign.

In the 2021/22 season, Son ended up as the joint winner of the Premier League’s Golden Boot award alongside Mo Salah, after bagging an incredible 23 goals across the campaign (Transfermarkt).

Compare that to last season, and Spurs fans will have felt they were watching a different player, as Son looked low on confidence, lacking his usual sharpness, and struggled to hit the target when given the chance.

Eventually, the South Korean star managed to finish the campaign with 14 goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Son himself has spoken on his injury issues last year and how this impacted his performances as he played the whole season ‘in pain’ (Football.London).

However, those injury problems are seemingly not going to prevent Son from being given a three-point deduction in his player rating on EA FC 24, the new video game from EA SPORTS which is set to replace the FIFA series.

The new game, which is due for release on September 29, has just had its career mode revealed in a trailer, and eagle-eyed fans will be able to spot player ratings for three Spurs stars.

First of all, Son will drop from the 89 rating he held on FIFA 23, to be rated 86 on EA FC 24. His Tottenham teammate Eric Dier is also dropping two points, from an 80 last year to a rating of 78 now.

Rodrigo Bentancur is one Spurs player who actually impressed last season, and that is reflected in the fact his rating has gone up, from a 79 last year, to an 82 in the new game.

These ratings feel entirely fair based on what we saw from the Spurs squad last season and we expect this to be indicative of how the whole team will be rated this year on the new game.

Sonny may have had injury issues, but until he proves he is over those problems, we can’t expect his rating to be as high as it used to.
