Heung-min Son has been putting his body on the line for South Korea this week on international duty and there are fears he may have picked up a knock as a result. However, the Tottenham Hotspur captain insists he is fine and relishes the physical challenge.
Since the departure of Harry Kane this summer, it has been up to Heung-min Son to step up and become the star of the show at Tottenham. And, he has done just that.
Taking on the captain’s armband to lead the way in the Ange Postecoglou era, Son has thrived with the added pressure and responsibility and appears to be back to his best.
With six goals in the opening eight games (Transfermarkt), Son is by far Spurs‘ top scorer and has been instrumental in helping the Lilywhites remain unbeaten in the early stages of the campaign.
Son has been handled carefully by Postecoglou, though, with fears over his fitness. The same precaution has seemingly not been taken by his international boss, Jurgen Klinsmann, who refused to rest Son during the recent clash with Vietnam.
Is Heung-min Son injured?
Despite concerns that Son may have picked up an injury when he was seen limping at half-time (Football.London), he completed the full 90 minutes and even scored for his country.
Speaking after the game, Son put any fears regarding his fitness to bed. He told Yonhap News Agency: “I hope it’s not too much. If you are worried about injuries due to the constant collisions and intense competition, you should not play this kind of football.
“Colliding like this is why I love football. I hit my thigh slightly in the first half, but it was not a big deal. I think playing full-time in today’s game will help me in terms of physical strength and performance as I return to my club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Just as we used to fear the worst watching Harry Kane play for England, Spurs fans are now praying Sonny comes back from international duty without any issues.
We have some big games coming up that can really help dictate the course of our season if we keep this momentum up, and Son is a vital part of that.
