Fabrizio Romano has revealed on The Residency that Tottenham Hotspur hold a more concrete interest in Wolfsburg centre-back Micky Van de Ven than what Liverpool do.
Van de Ven is quickly emerging as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga, with a call-up to the senior Netherlands squad appearing to be just around the corner for the 22-year-old.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season with in the German top flight and has now attracted the attention of the two Premier League rivals.
It has been well documented that strengthening at left centre-back is one of Tottenham’s priorities this summer (The Athletic), with the Wolfsburg star alleged to be one of the names on the club’s wishlist.
Spurs are more serious than Liverpool for Van de Ven
In fact, it was Fabrizio Romano who first revealed on Saturday that Tottenham have already held talks with the centre-back’s representatives regarding a switch to N17 this summer.
However, it was subsequently reported by Football Insider the very next day that Liverpool could challenge the Lilywhites for Van de Ven.
It was explained that Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a central defender who can operate in a back three or back four and had identified the Dutchman as an ideal fit.
Romano has now eased the fears of Spurs fans by revealing that while the Reds have monitored Van de Ven, Tottenham’s interest in the Netherlands Under-21 international is ‘more concrete’.

I do not expect Tottenham to sign two left-sided centre-backs this summer with Ben Davies likely to remain while there is also the possibility of Clement Lenglet returning from Barcelona.
So, in all likelihood, Van de Ven is likely viewed as a backup option by the North London club in case a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Taposba falls through.
