The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons has claimed that it’s a shame Antonio Conte has not handed Pape Matar Sarr more opportunities this season.
Spurs signed Sarr from Metz last summer on the back of his breakthrough campaign in 2020-21 before loaning him back to the Ligue 1 club for the 2021-22 campaign.
The youngster showed plenty of promise when Conte handed him opportunities during pre-season but it perhaps came as a surprise when Tottenham decided not to loan him out in the summer.
The midfielder has not played a single minute of senior football for the North London club so far, although he has made the matchday squad on a few occasions (Transfermarkt).
The Evening Standard reported last week that Spurs are expected to loan out the Senegal international in January, along with Japhet Tanganga and Bryan Gil, with Conte alleged to have asked for direct replacements to be brought in for all three players.
Aarons has now said that Sarr is mature for someone of his age and insisted that the 20-year-old is ready to get minutes at Tottenham.
The journalist told GiveMeSport about the midfielder: “He’s a very exciting player in terms of the progression he’s made at such a young age.
“It’s a shame that Tottenham haven’t given him a chance because he’s probably ready, I think. He’s been on the bench a few times this season, but he is a holding midfielder, which they have plenty of.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Conte perhaps wanted Sarr to train with the first team at Tottenham so that he improves his tactical understanding of the game, which is probably why the Spurs boss decided to keep him around this summer. I have no doubts that the youngster will be loaned out by the club in January.
